Haunted by the ghosts of this world
Into a lonely place a beauty is hurled
So beautiful she could set the skies ablaze
Or drown the oceans in her beautiful haze
Safe from this world, in a place far away
Peacefully she sleeps through night and day
Waiting for her entire life to pass
Avoiding visions from her poisoned past
Lost in her sleep, she doesn't see her beauty
Blinded by darkness, an almost lifeless sleeping beauty
Only one can wake her from her slumber
Kiss her and cure her from her hunger
Feed her with love, fill the hollowness
Keep her from feeling weak and powerless
The prince finds his way to her throne
Lost in her beauty; frozen like a stone
Drunk on ego, he wants her for himself
To keep himself from feeling lost and hopeless
One simple kiss could bring her back to life
He could marry her; make her his beautiful wife
Live happily ever after in a world full of love
Like fairytale characters with grace from above
Just before kissing her, he gazes at her lips
Touches her pearly soft skin; experiences bliss
Believing his kiss could make it right for her
Help her face her nightmares, and protect her
With visions of his heaven in his head
He proceeds to bring her back from the dead
About to kiss her, the eclipse of his mind ends
Through her closed eyes his mind transcends
Showing him enchanting visions of a distant world
A world so beautiful, his intentions are curbed
Taken aback by the beauty of these visions
He takes a step back; curses his intentions
Desperately looks around him to find some good
He was blinded by his loneliness; now he understood
Like a fallen angel drowned in its sleep
She lays upon her bed while the world weeps
The world had changed since her slumber started
Violence, hatred, greed grew after she departed
The world without her light was now full of ugliness
Peace, love and understanding were now meaningless
The world was no longer a place worth living in
Drowned by darkness and men full of sin
Voices in the darkness had tricked him to believe
But her beauty guided him through it all, allowed him to leave
Had tried to drag the demons from her; believed he could cure her
Now thought he was a fool to think that he could heal her
For her slumber had begun because of this very chaos
Now worse; it wasn't something the prince could take care of
Beyond the limits of his power the chaos had grown
He was convinced she was better off left sleeping on her throne
It was too late for him; he wished he had found her before
Could have walked with her hand-in-hand on beautiful sea-shores
On his knees, helplessly, the prince begged for pardon
Explained why he couldn't kiss her; take her to his garden
His heart was now hers and her heart was cold
Both were left with no one to hold
He promised her, his love for her will never die
To stay lonely forever; never to look into another's eyes
The prince left, with this promise and a heart colored grey
Oblivious of the endless price he would have to pay
Sanity now and beyond him
He must always love her
There is no choice.

Written listening to A Perfect Circle's Sleeping Beauty/LoveSong on my 19th birthday
It's not exactly poetry. It's an attempt to push out thoughts in the form of rhymes. Hard to explain, but this seemed like a suitable alternative to writing boring prose.

I like, it shows human nature. But in my opinion thank god the prince left poor beauty.
You captured how humans think that if they give solice and companionship that the problem will magically
dissapear and everything will be fine again. That the wounds that are inflicted and the memories will vanish
and never daunt our minds again.
Thankgod the prince was smart
